NOTIFICATIONS: Students will be contacted by email or phone for a brief discussion with HUM about goals. Those accepted will be notified by the 30th of each month as to whether or not they have been selected for an internship.
Students in current bureau cities will have the opportunity to work within HUM locations; students seeking internships via virtual means, from anywhere in the world are also welcome to apply.
DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES: Interns will be responsible for a variety of work to include but not limited to the following: research for breaking news stories, research for continuing stories and/or online “pages” on the HUMNEWS site, updating and creating contact “rolodex” files, contacting HUM content partners for the most current news from the region, attending editorial meetings and contributing to the editorial discussion, some writing and/or editing may be required – don’t worry we will teach you what you may not know.
ABOUT US: HUM (Human Unlimited Media is a news organization focusing its attention on over 100 countries and territories underreported on and/or ignored by mainstream media which we refer to as the “Geographic Gap in Global Media”. The understanding and exposure of the countries in the “Geographic Gap” is critical to a full and complete understanding of the global world we live in today, now, and to our shared future world progress on a variety of social, professional, cultural and political levels for us individually, and collectively.
Created by a former CNN executive with expertise and support from a team of seasoned, innovative technologists, veteran business, news, content and humanitarian professionals HUM has grown into a vital, viable venture for the esteemed colleagues working on building the Company for both a global consumer information market and the worldwide professional content industry.
REQUIREMENTS: We require a minimum time commitment of 15 hours per week (up to 30). This is an unpaid internship; however, we assist students in receiving academic credit for their work and try to match a students’ own coursework and goals with the opportunities HUM can provide. HUMNNEWS’ provides interns with the opportunity to work in a supportive and collaborative environment. Candidates must be detail oriented, have exceptional writing and research skills, posses strong computer skills and willingness to work on a wide range of projects. Video, audio, mobile production and development work a plus. Candidates do NOT have to be journalism students however, knowledge, curiosity and interest of the world beyond your borders is a MUST.
